Strasbourg – A city at the crossroads

When we first visited Alsace, Strasbourg was on a must-see list. Our journey begins at the Colmar train station, from where the railway takes us directly to Strasbourg. The ride takes about 35 minutes and the fare is € 15 per person one way.

Our one-day trip to Strasbourg took a short time and really nothing can be seen during that time. If you have some time available for a tour, such as ours, I suggest taking a leisurely stroll along the river, touring some of the most important sights, or let’s say a batoram ride. Don’t bother to see everything because it’s impossible!

This city is quite big and has a lot of things worth visiting, so I suggest staying a few days in this city if you can. If not, then relax and spontaneously enjoy the beauty of this city.

We were able to walk through the old part of town, to visit the part of town known as La Petite France, to walk along the Il river and of course to see the beautiful cathedral, which is truly amazing live!

Note – if you are planning a batoram ride, be sure to book online a few days early. It was a great desire for us to ride, and from the river, to look at the beauties of this magical city, but unfortunately, there were no vacancies either for the day or the next day. The crowds are big, so book your ticket on time.

And now I will write you some interesting information about the city of Strasbourg itself …

Strasbourg is a city located in the Alsace region of France. It is located on the former border between France and Germany. This border is virtually non-existent (at least in physical form) so many German nationals work freely in Strasbourg and many French people work in Germany too.

Strasbourg is located in the Rhine valley and is the second largest port on this river.

The Il river flows through the city, which is a tributary of the Rhine and is divided into five branches in the center of the city (La Petit France).

Strasbourg is a city located in the center of Western Europe, which gives it great traffic and political importance. Due to it’s bi-national and bilingual culture, this city has become one of the capitals of a united Europe. It houses the Council of Europe, the seat of the European Parliament, as well as the European Court of Human Rights.

Grande île Historic Center is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. It is the first time that one downtown has been declared a World Heritage Site.

A large number of tourists choose to visit the city by water – across the Rhine. Strasbourg can also be reached by rail, bus and plane.

There are also three universities in Strasbourg, so education is a very important branch of this magnificent city. They belong to the group of so-called University of Upper Rhine.

The most important landmark of the city of Strasbourg is it’s beautiful Cathedral of Notrdam (Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Strasbourg), built in Gothic style. The cathedral is 142m high. The construction of the cathedral began in 1015. and was completed in 1439.
